Archived News about Alexandra Bounxouei in the Lao Media.

Pop singer Alexandra has denied rumours that she would accept more than 13 million kip to sing for a prominent Thai music label.

“I do not know where they got this information that I would work for the Grammy Entertainment company in Thailand. It is not true because I am still studying for my future so I cannot do that,” said the young pop star yesterday. “Another reason why this is untrue is because I am fully involved in activities to help Lao society.”

Grammy Entertainment had recently invited the singer to perform for three days at the Pattaya Music Festival 2004 but Alexandra denies that this was part of a contract deal.

“My friends told me this morning at college that I was wrong to decide to sign with the company. I said, ‘What’ I only went to perform for them,” she said.

“Grammy did ask me to work for them but I told them I could not because I am studying for the next two years so I have no time,” she explained.

Fans asked recently why Alexandra had to speak in Thai even though she was Lao. “I would like fans to understand that when we visit some countries and try to speak their language it means we respect their country and their culture. It is the same when foreigners come to Laos and try to speak Lao. I know some local fans saw me speaking Thai on the TV, but just a little, not much,” said the pop singer.

The music festival made Alexandra well known among Thai people and foreigners visiting Pattaya. She said that the foreigners who stayed at the same hotel as her asked for her CD.

“After the concert many foreigners asked my daughter for a CD but we did not bring any with us. When we went shopping many Thai fans asked for her signature and a photo,” said Mrs. Danny, Alexandra’s mother.

lexandra will hold an AIDS awareness concert sponsored by PSI in Luang Prabang on April 11 and on April 18 at the Lao Embassy to Thailand for the Lao New Year celebration there.
